The Library was organized on the basis of the Library of zoological sector of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian Republic in 1941, after the foundation of the Institute of Zoology.
Currently the number of books and journals exceeds 45 000. Covered subjects are: Epidemiology, Parazitology, Evolution, Taxonomy, Zoology, Hydrobiology, Ecology, Cell Biology etc. Library includes:

1. Collection of old books and drawings (XVIII-XIX centuries) about the history of nature.
2. Collection of books and journals about fauna of the Caucasus Region (XIX-XX centuries).

Library has traditional alphabetic and systematic catalogs:

• Alphabetic Books and periodicals in Georgian;
• Foreign books in Cyrillic Alphabet;
• Foreign books in Roman alphabet.
• Periodicals in Cyrillic Alphabet;
• Periodicals in Roman alphabet.

Nowadays electronic catalog of Georgian books and journals is almost finished.
